Waiver Wire Wonders: Tim Tebown'd
Tim Tebow (QB, Broncos) - What else can we say without sounding like a Tim Tebow fanboy (i.e., every single football commentator on the planet)? The guy can compete. In his first NFL start, Tebow put up nice fantasy numbers. His passing stats were nothing to write home about as he only threw for 138 yards and a score, but combined with his 78 yards rushing and another score, he definitely made fantasy waves. Already assured of a start in next week's game against the softish Texans defense, this could be an exciting championship play.
Toby Gerhart (RB, Vikings) - In the event that the Adrian Peterson owner in your league stopped caring and didn't bother to pick up Toby Gerhart in advance of this week's Monday night matchup, Gerhart is a screaming buy. Peterson's status will be in limbo for next week, but should he sit again, Gerhart will be a beastly play. The Vikings will face a tough defense in Philadelphia, but after losing Brett Favre yet again this week, the quarterback situation will be a mess and Gerhart would surely get a lot of touches. Statistically, Gerhart wasn't lights out this week, but he certainly showed his skills. You can just tell Gerhart has a 150-yard, two-touchdown game in his future.
Vincent Jackson (WR, Chargers) - Apparently, the wait was worth it. In his first full game back from myriad issues and injuries, Vincent Jackson shut everybody up with three touchdowns and 112 yards receiving. Just like that, Philip Rivers has his favorite receiver back and the sky is the limit from a fantasy perspective. The Chargers face Cincinnati and Denver yet this season, so look for V-Jax to reassert himself as one of the league's elite just in time to drum up a big fuss about his contract in the offseason.
Derrick Ward (RB, Texans) - This one goes for deeper leagues as Derrick Ward comes off a whopping 26 all-purpose yards, but this year's undisputed fantasy breakout player, Arian Foster, suffered an injury this past week. It's a situation that requires some monitoring, but should Foster come up limp for next week's matchup against the struggling Broncos, Ward could be another late-season steal.
Rex Grossman (QB, Redskins) - Having not started a game since November 2008, Rex Grossman took everyone by surprise with a knockout day of 322 yards and four touchdowns through the air. I can't say I really see a fit for him in anyone's championship-week starting lineup, but the performance at least bears a mention. Perhaps in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks (may God have mercy on your souls), Grossman could be worth a look.
Kenny Britt (WR, Titans) - It's been a tale of two offenses for the Titans this season -- with and without Kenny Britt. The Titans were 5-3 with Britt in the lineup prior to his injury, and subsequently lost five games straight. Last week, Britt resumed his All-Pro caliber play and the Titans walked over Houston 31-17 courtesy of his 128-yard receiving effort. Look for more of the same, as Tennessee truly appears to be a different team with the playmaker in the lineup.
Jimmy Graham (TE, Saints) - Jimmy Graham is a guy who has been blipping on the fantasy radar for weeks, but he hadn't really made his case for why anybody should trust him on a weekly basis. On Sunday, he finally drew some honest attention, not for his five catches and 29 yards, but with two touchdown catches it's clear he's now officially a red zone presence for Drew Brees. Tight ends have been a royal pain in the neck this season, so while it's tough to decide when to take a risk and when to stick it out with who you've got, Graham is definitely a rising stock.
Mike Sims-Walker (WR, Jaguars) - Mike Sims-Walker got a little redemption on his otherwise disappointing season in Week 15 with four catches for 42 yards and two touchdowns. Oddly, Sims-Walker actually re-injured his ankle prior to the two touchdowns, so it's a strange story, but folks in need of depth might consider him as a WR3 or Flex this week. Keep an eye on his practice participation, but he should be available for some production next week.
