Clint Dempsey Biography

Clint Dempsey is a versatile player who can play in many positions. He is a powerful shooter. Known for his toughness and resilience, he once played two games for New England Revolution with a broken jaw in 2004.

He did not get a diagnosis on his jaw until after the two games, and upon his return, he played another game through a sprained ankle.

Despite being known as a wide player Dempsey likes to drift into the middle of the attack frequently. He likes to score close range goals on top of the many long range goals he regularly scores.

He has made 93 appearances for America scoring 32 goals. Some say that Dempsey is the United States' best ever soccer player! He is a true inspiration and shows that if you want something, you can get it with determination.

Childhood

Clint Dempsey was born on March 9, 1983. He comes from Texas. He was desperate from an early age to pursue a career in soccer and would play with anyone he could find.

His brother, Ryan, was offered a tryout by the elite club, the Dallas Texans. Ryan brought young Clint who was noticed at the side of the pitch juggling a ball. He was offered a spot and quickly signed up.

Dempsey came from a talented sporting family. Unfortunately financial elements in the family forced him to quit soccer as his sister, Jennifer, was trying to go professional in tennis.

Many of Dempsey's teammates' parents offered to provide for him as they were eager to get their star performer back in the team. He took them up on this offer, and was glad to return to the team.

In 1995, Clint's sister suddenly passed due to a brain aneurism. This motivated him to succeed even more. He played for Furman University and was drafted by the New England Revolution.

New England Revolution



In his first season at New England, he played 23 out of the 24 games scoring seven goals. During the 2005/2006 season, Clint scored ten goals and had nine assists in 26 games.

He scored the winning goal that helped New England get to the MLS final. Dempsey was starting to really make a name for himself, and top English Premier League teams began showing interest.

Fulham and Tottenham

In 2006 Clint Dempsey would get a dream move to the English Premiership, as Fulham offered the New England Revolution $4 million for him.

He would go on to become a fan favorite and one of the most recognisable players in the Premier League, making 225 appearances for Fulham and scoring 60 goals. His consistent performances earned him another great move to the English giants, Tottenham Hotspur.

He signed for the Spurs on August 31, 2012 putting pen to paper on a three-year contract. He has made a great impression at Tottenham, making 37 appearances so far and scoring 10 goals.
