Robin van Persie Biography

Robin van Persie is one of the greatest soccer players in the game today. His prolific ability to score goals is a wonder to see. There are very few players who can score goals as well as this man.

Beginnings

Robin van Persie was born on August 6, 1983 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. His parents were both artists, and, throughout his childhood, they encouraged him to take up the same line of work.

However young van Persie by no means did what he was told. He was a troublesome youth who was sent out of his classes almost daily. Still, there was one thing he excelled at: soccer.

At the age of fourteen, Robin joined the Dutch club SBV Excelsior. However, he was only there for a short time before his parents divorced, and, staying with his father, he moved and signed for Feyenoord.

Two years later, at the age of seventeen, Robin van Persie signed his first professional contract for three and a half years at Feyenoord.

This was where Robin received his first taste of success. He had some trouble toward the beginning only due to his poor behavior. In the end, however, his skills won out, and he quickly became a success. He lead them to win the 2002 UEFA Cup.

His talent did not go unnoticed.

When his contract came near an end, van Persie was already having trouble getting along with his manager, and refused to extend his contract with the club.

It was then that he was noticed by the club where he would go to become one of the greatest strikers on the planet: Arsenal. On May 17, 2004, the twenty-year-old left Feyenoord and headed for Arsenal.

Arsenal

Upon arriving at Arsenal, Robin was plagued with injuries, and the high competition at this club made it hard for the young striker to find a starting place in the line-up for the first few years.

He finally became the main striker for the club in the 2007-08 season upon the departure of the great Thierry Henry. However, he struggled again as he received a knee injury that sat him out for two months.

Finally in the 2008-09 season, van Persie found his form. Scoring 20 goals and 11 assists, he had finally established himself as Arsenal's star striker.

He only got better from there. He was out for half of the 2010-11 season on injuries, but was still only two goals behind the two tied top scorers in the English Premier league!

The following season he became top scorer in the Premier League with 30 league goals!

However, even with this unstoppable striker, Arsenal was struggling and did not earn any trophies. On August 15, 2012, Robin van Persie signed a four-year contract with the giant English club, Manchester United.

Manchester United

Upon joining this prodigious club, Robin van Persie immediately adapted to the new team. Upon arriving at the club, he was already the top player on the squad. His goal scoring did slow down.

Though he has only been with United for a short while, the fans already treat him as a hero, and he has established an irreplaceable spot in their squad.
